How networks grew in 2018

Players in the retail market are summing up last year, including the number of open stores. Retail.ru collected data on how large networks grew in 2018, whether expectations were fulfilled and how the dynamics changed compared to 2017.

Childen's goods
"Daughters and sons"
A supermarket chain for children has opened 23 stores. The geography of presence covers the whole of Russia, from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to Rostov-on-Don and Novorossiysk.

Priority in terms of development were such areas as the Far East, Siberia and the Far North: three of the six stores opened in November are located in the northern cities - Tyumen, Norilsk and Noyabrsk.

In 2017, the “Daughters and Sons” expanded, opening 12 stores. In 2016, the network launched 16 stores.

"Child's world"
In August 2018, Detsky Mir group announced a change in its network expansion plans: by the end of 2018, not 70, but 100 new stores, including in the Far East, would be opened. At the end of the year, the company fulfilled this plan by launching 100 stores, more than half of the network’s discoveries in the last quarter. In addition, Detsky Mir continued active regional and international expansion: 33 opening stores appeared in new cities of Russia and Kazakhstan for the group.

In 2018, the group launched two new retail chains - ABC toys and Zoosaurus pet products. The first store “Zoozavr” opened in Moscow, and by the end of the year there were already 4 - two in Moscow, one each in the MO and Tambov.

The total number of stores of the group of companies as of December 31, 2018 was 743: Detsky Mir (673 stores), ELC — 57 stores, ABC — 9, and Zoosaurus — 4.

A year earlier, on December 31, 2017, the number of stores was 622, of which 578 are Detsky Mir, 44 are ELC.

"Toy.ru"
In 2018, the federal toy network took a strategic pause for the analysis of existing outlets, so it opened about 15 new stores, 4 of them - a new format. At the same time, old ones that did not meet the required level of efficiency were closed, therefore the overall size of the network did not increase significantly. In 2019, Toi.ru plans to open both its own stores and franchises.

At the end of the year, the network consisted of 158 stores in Russia, from Moscow to Vladivostok.

Fashion
Familia
The off-price network Familia opened 48 stores in 2018, which was a record annual discovery for the company: in 2017 it was 46, in 2016 - 41. In total, since the beginning of 2016, the network has more than doubled, opening 135 new stores.

In 2018, Familia expanded significantly in both the western and eastern parts of the country. In particular, the company appeared in Arkhangelsk, increased its presence in Smolensk and opened 6 stores in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, and the new store in Gatchina became the most western point of the network. In the eastern part of the country, the company actively mastered the Siberian territory: it opened three new stores in Novosibirsk, went to Barnaul, Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo, Nizhnevartovsk and Krasnoyarsk, which became the easternmost point in the geography of Familia.

The company has 240 stores in 46 regions of Russia (in 86 cities), the total sales area exceeds 300 thousand square meters. m

Melon Fashion Group
The group that owns and manages the Zarina, befree and Love Republic brands, in 2018, opened 34 own and 26 franchise stores, relocated 38 own stores and 11 under the franchise program. At the end of the year, the Melon Fashion Group combined network consisted of 575 stores (416 own and 159 franchised), which is 24 more than a year earlier.

The group continued the implementation of the network renovation project, the essence of which is to transform small, “outdated” stores into new large and designer spaces that are comfortable for the buyer and attractive to developers.

"Stockmann"
In 2017, the network of the Finnish brand, which is developing in Russia under license, consisted of 7 department stores, by December 2018 there were already eight of them - in Moscow, Kazan, Krasnodar, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg. The plans for the coming year - the opening of three more stores.

Books
"Read-city - Bookvoed"
The Chitai-Gorod-Bukvoed retail chain has 577 stores. Revenue in 2018 - about 24 billion rubles.

The main growth driver is the active opening of new stores throughout the country. In 2017, a record number of 100 new stores was opened, and in 2018 over 70. The retailer is actively searching for suitable offers in places where the network has not yet been represented. Last year was marked by interesting discoveries in the Caucasus region, in particular in Grozny, which is showing good results.
